## How the math works

County average per hour = county average weekly wage ÷ typical paid hours a week. Your pay against the county = your hourly pay ÷ that county figure.

Difference per hour = your hourly pay − county average per hour. Difference per week = your hourly pay × typical hours − county weekly wage. The weekly number is what a caregiver sees on a paycheck.

Where you stand: under 90% is well below the county average, 90% to 97% is below, 97% to 103% is at the average, 103% to 110% is above and over 110% is well above. Use it as a signal, then check job posts in your area.

Get the county figure free from the BLS QCEW at data.bls.gov/cew for your county and industry, such as services for the elderly and persons with disabilities (NAICS 624120). The example is $12 an hour against a $520 county week; both are example numbers.
