Landed cost per carton

Free tool · Produce

This adds freight, broker, inspection and cold storage to the F.O.B. price and then covers the shrink you expect. Use it before you quote a buyer so the price covers what the carton really cost you.

What you pay the shipper for one carton. Example: 22.25.
The reefer rate for the whole load to your door or your buyer’s. Example: 3,900.
Cartons on the truck. A full load of 25 lb cartons is often 1,000 to 1,200.
The broker’s fee for the whole load. Example: 175.
Inspection or certificate cost divided by cartons. Type 0 if none.
Cooling, handling and storage per carton.
The share you expect to lose or dump. Type 3 for 3%.

How the math works

Landed cost per carton = (F.O.B. + truck rate ÷ cartons + broker fee ÷ cartons + inspection + cold storage) × (1 + shrink %).

The truck and the customs broker charge you by the load, so both are split across the cartons on the truck. Inspection and cold storage are already per carton. The shrink line raises the cost of the cartons you sell to pay for the ones you dump.

The example is a load of avocados: 1,100 cartons at $22.25 F.O.B., a $3,900 reefer and a $175 broker fee. All of these are example numbers, so type your own.
