Start from what the plate costs and the food cost % you want. The calculator gives the menu price that hits it.

The share of the price you want to spend on food. Type 30 for thirty percent.
Prices round up to this step, like 0.25 for $4.75 or $5.00. Type 0 for the exact price.

Price for your target

$5.25

Food cost % at that price

28.8%

Exact price before rounding

$5.0333

An estimate for planning. Check the numbers with your accountant before you decide.

How the math works

Price for your target = plate cost ÷ target food cost %, rounded up to the next step you pick, like $0.25.

Rounding up lowers the food cost % a little, so the calculator also shows the real food cost % at the rounded price. Type 0 in the step to see the exact price.

The example is a plate that costs $1.51 with a 30% target: $5.0333 exact and $5.25 on the menu, which puts food cost at 28.8%. The free plate cost workbook does the same math with your ingredients: builtbyestrada.ai/downloads/plate-cost-calculator-free.xlsx
